Ball Aims to Help Fort Worth Become Safest City

Randy Travis to perform at first Safe City Ball

Community leaders have launched a campaign to make Fort Worth the safest city in America.

The Safe City Commission partners law enforcement and community leaders to fight crime in the Fort Worth metropolitan area.  Some of the city's most prominent community leaders, including members of the Bass family, are instrumental in the campaign.

The commission not only supports familiar organizations such as Crime Stoppers, but also uses innovative methods to generate leads on some of Tarrant County's most dangerous criminals and is reaching out to mentor at-risk youth, according to the group's Web site.

The commission will hold the first Safe City Ball on Saturday to raise money for the effort. The event features country star Randy Travis and will be held at the Omni Fort Worth Hotel.

Money will go toward fighting a culture of violence among young people,  developing effective crime prevention programs and using the newest technology to reduce crime in the city.
