From the Waffle House to the Big House

Early morning breakfast costs elderly woman a night in the slammer

A 66-year-old Florida preferred to go to jail rather than pay a $7.45 Waffle House bill.

Maryanne O'Neill ordered coffee and a sandwich at the St. Lucie County restaurant at 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, then told the staff she'd be back after seeing a friend across the street.

The Waffle House employee called cops who told O'Neill to pay up or go to jail.

She choose jail.

"O'Neill said she was not going to pay for her food," the according to a police report. "I asked O'Neill again to pay for her food and she plain refused to."

O'Neill was charged with defrauding an inkeeper and released without bail Sunday.
