Woman Accused of Selling Son's ID

A Texas woman is due in federal court to answer charges she sold her son's birth certificate and Social Security card to a Kansas woman.

Maria de Jesus Soto had a change-of-plea hearing scheduled Monday before U.S. District Judge Wesley Brown in Wichita.

Soto is a 54-year-old U.S. citizen living in Brownsville, Texas. She was indicted last year on charges of illegal sale of a Social Security card, aggravated identity theft and possession of unlawfully obtained documents.

Court documents allege that in August 2005, Soto sold her son's identity documents to Veronica Rocio, who was then living in Arkansas City.

Rocio faces similar charges in the case.
