Wedding Cake Is Rich — $1.3 Million Rich

Dallas bakery, jewelry store team up for bling-encrusted confection with jaw-dropping price

Anyone who has forked over big bucks for a wedding can at least be grateful it didn't cost $3,000 per serving.

But if you're in the market for that kind of thing, a Dallas bakery and a jewelry store have a bling-encrusted confection for you.

Delicious Cakes and Dallas Gold and Silver Exchange got together to create a nine-tier wedding cake decorated in silver "luster" dust icing and 1,200 carats of diamonds. The cake was on display this past weekend at the Dallas Bridal Show.

"We wanted to do something different this year," said Butch Stivers, owner of Delicious Cakes. "With the economy being bad -- and we do the Dallas Bridal Show so many years -- we wanted to do something that the new brides-to-be could see and dream about and get their minds off everything else that's going on."

Stivers said that while he's decorated cakes with diamond brooches before, this is the first desert he's adorned with $1.3 million worth of jewels.

The cake was made out of foam. But if it was an actual cake, it would weigh about 160 pounds and serve about 320 people, coming out to $3,125 per slice.

The cake was transported to the show in an armored car, and armed guards kept a close on the really rich cake throughout the show..
