Sticking to the Competition

DFW is home to world’s biggest prick

I had to get a little lubricated to sit for the one piecing I have in my ear. I am not a fan of needles.

Robert Rubio, on the other hand, must love them… of at least the notoriety that comes with them.

He recently regained his place among "Guinness Book of World Records" holders by receiving 2,100 piercings in one sitting, lying, laying, whatever.

"I beat the record before. I did 900," he said before the epic five-hour piercing of the skin down his arms, his legs, and his back. "[The record] was 745 but I did 900. Somebody took my record, and I’m coming to get it back."

On some level, you can’t help but respect the guy for his determination. On another, what the hell, mate?

"It’s for 2,000 people," he said. "If I can take a piece of little pain from everybody so they don’t have to feel it, that’s what I’m doing…"

So, he’s a humanitarian and a competitor — can’t really argue with the altruistic intentions, but dayum, 3,000 needles?

All kinds, indeed.

Bruce Felps owns and operates East Dallas Times, an online community news outlet serving the White Rock Lake area. He has a healthy fear of needles. Or should that be unhealthy fear?
