150-Foot Colo. Bridge Is Free to Good Home

The DOT wants you to take a historic bridge off its hands — but you'll have to dismantle it yourself

The state of Colorado has a bridge it wants to give you.

The catch?

"For those who are interested, the bridge is free to a good home, but the recipient will need to pay for the disassembly, relocation, and re-assembly of the bridge," the Colorado Department of Transportation says on its website.

The DOT is hoping to unload the Dotsero Bridge, a 150-foot-long, 33-foot-wide, 13-foot-high and 77-year-old metal truss bridge that spans the Colorado River and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Denver Post reported.

And it's hoping to unload the bridge — which it plans to replace with a new "green" bridge — without having itself to pay for its removal.

"The bridge may be a good candidate for re-use as a pedestrian or recreational trail bridge," agency historian Lisa Schoch told the Denver Post.

Want the bridge? Just be sure you invest in a new deck and abutments wherever you put it, and don't disrupt any of the lead paint that covers the bridge.

The bridge has not yet been posted on Craigslist but can be had for a song by calling the DOT.
