A South Texas man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for stabbing his estranged wife more than 30 times just days after she filed for divorce.
A judge in San Antonio on Thursday sentenced 40-year-old Roberto Barron as part of a plea deal in the 2010 attack with a hunting knife outside a school. Investigators say 40-year-old Teresa Barron continues her recovery.
San Antonio police say Roberto Barron stabbed his spouse after she dropped off the couple's daughter for classes. The attack stopped when a person who has a concealed gun permit drew a weapon on the husband.
Roberto Barron in September pleaded no contest to aggravated assault of a family member causing serious bodily injury.
The defense had sought probation.
