Man Rescued From Chimney After Locking Keys in House

Man emerged from chimney covered in soot

A Texas man proved he's no Santa Claus, instead proving he's a Scrooge for not waiting to pay for a locksmith.

Firefighters in Lubbock had to hoist the 22-year-old man by rope from the chimney of his house early Monday after he became stuck inside.

Deputy Fire Marshal Robert Loveless said the man had locked himself and his family out of their house about 1 a.m. Monday and, wanting to save the price of a locksmith, decided to enter the house through the chimney as his wife and child waited outside.

When the man didn't appear at the door, his wife called 911. Firefighters hauled him out unhurt about an hour later.
