High School QB Has 700-Yard Passing Game

QB goes 33-42 in 62-55 win

A Texas high school quarterback set a single-game record with what appears to be the state's first 700-yard passing performance.

Mike Richardson of Marble Falls topped 700 yards Thursday night in a 62-55 win over Boerne Champion. Richardson passed for seven touchdowns and ran for another.

Marble Falls coach Todd Dodge said he charted Richardson with 33 of 42 passing for 722 yards. Dodge, who won four state high school championships at Southlake Carroll, said he will review Richardson's yardage total Friday.

According to Texas Football Magazine, the previous state record for single-game passing yards was 683 set by Wichita Falls' Dylan Sheffield in 2011.

Boerne Champion's Kyle Poeske threw for 595 yards in the loss.

It wasn't immediately known whether a six-man quarterback has ever thrown for 700 yards.
