Casino Rewards Overweight Patrons for “Fat Tuesday”

Promo offered 10 cents per pound

A Florida casino honored “Fat Tuesday” this week by doling out doughnuts and paying patrons 10 cents for each pound they weighed.

Gulfstream casino called the promotion a “parody” since its closest competitor is named Mardi Gras Casino, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

“We wanted something people could have fun with,” Michael Goldin, Gulfstream’s director of marketing, told the paper.

He downplayed that the casino was encouraging its patrons to fatten up for freebies.

“If you gain 10 pounds, you get a buck in free play,” he said. "We don't care if they have lead in their shoes, or bring their purse up with them -- and we round up."

This was the second year the casino paid patrons by the pound for Fat Tuesday.
