Parolee Wearing GPS Tracker Accused of Breaking Into Home

The GPS tracking device that a Massachusetts woman was required to wear as a condition of her parole apparently did little to deter her from allegedly breaking and entering several homes, according to reports.

Thirty-year-old Kristen Dacosta, from Dartmouth, Mass., has been accused of breaking into a Somerset home and committing similar crimes in surrounding communities, The Herald News reported.

Dacosta’s alleged crimes were discovered after the Somerset home owner noticed a large amount of jewelry missing and contacted local law enforcement. The Massachusetts Probation Service, which oversees the state's GPS tracking program, traced the theft back to Dacosta, according to the local police chief.

Police appeared baffled that the parolee thought her crimes would go unseen.

“It doesn’t make sense that someone would think that no one is watching,” Police Chief Joseph Ferreira told the Herald News.

Dacosta now has a warrant out for one count breaking and entering while attempting to commit a felony and one count of larceny over $250.

Most of the jewelry has been recovered from local pawnshops, according to police.
