If you’re planning to buy a new car in 2015, don’t expect a bargain as strong new car sales are driving up demand and prices.
According to US News and World Report, the current average price paid for a new car is the highest it’s ever been and will likely go higher. It’s more important now than ever to assure the car you’re buying is a good value.
The publication has released its list of the 2015 Best Cars for the Money, an annual recognition of the best cars in 21 automotive categories.
“We collect and analyze every published and credible review of a given car, and we assign a score to it,” said Jamie Page Deaton, managing editor of U.S. News Best Cars. To decide which cars offer the best value, the publication analyzes the car’s average transaction price and the total ownership costs over five years.
“These awards are showing you cars that get good reviews from professional automotive critics and also have great long term ownership costs,” said Page Deaton.

Honda was the big winner with both its Honda and Acura brands earning a total of six awards. American automakers were the losers taking only three awards compared to 18 wins by importers.

“While a lot of domestic cars were finalists in most of the categories, they were edged out by newly redesigned models by import brands,” said Page Deaton.
The most notable winner is the Lexus RX 350 SUV earning its seventh consecutive Best Car for the Money award. It’s the longest streak in the history of the awards.
