NASA Develops Iron Man-Like Space Suit

Robotic exoskeleton could improve mobility for astronauts, paraplegics

Watch out Tony Stark. NASA is developing its own version of the Iron Man suit.

NASA, with help from the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, has created the X1 robotic exoskeleton, a 57-pound device worn over the body, according to a NASA press release.

Worn over the legs with a backpack harness that reaches up over the shoulders, the X1 would allow astronauts in space to exercise by providing resistance training, the release said.

Here on Earth, the X1 could be developed into an assistive walking device for paraplegics and a rehabilitation device for those with leg injuries.

The exoskeleton is still in the research and development phase.
