Israel Bans the iPad From the Holy Land

Officials worry the iPad could disrupt other products Wi-Fi connection

It seems not everyone is upset about the delayed international launch of the iPad.

In a preemptive move to protect the sovereignty of wireless networks in the Holy Land, the Israeli government has banned the import of Apple's latest must-have gadget.

Perhaps learning lessons from AT&T's iPhone experience, Israel cited concerns that the iPad would hog wireless networks and unfairly affect other devices.

Israel's iPad complaint centers around an Apple design component.  Apple designed the iPad to comply with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission Wi-Fi standards, which allows products to broadcast at higher power levels than in Israel. Israeli officials says the higher frequency could disturb the connection of other devices.

The ban may not last. Israeli officials are studying the iPad to see if it complies with local transmitter standards.
