Every now and then you'll see Rougned Odor throw a ball from second to first base a bit too wide or make a "young mistake" in the field.
Same goes for Luis Sardinas, who has made three errors in six starts at shortstop this year, including an inexcusable dropped pop-up last week. They haven't been pretty. But when you get upset about those type of plays, first, remind yourself Odor and Sardinas are 20 and 21 years old, respectively. Second, just wait for them to come to the plate.
Odor is batting .286 this season with two homers and 14 RBIs — good for 10th on the team in just 84 at-bats. Sardinas hasn't been quite as good at the plate, but he's definitely held his own. On Saturday night, it was Sardinas who had a ninth-inning single and scored the eventual game-winner on a Leonys Martin single. He's hitting .302 on the season with two RBIs in 53 at-bats.
"They don't stop playing," Rangers manager Ron Washington told MLB.com. "That's what I like about both of them."
There is no question, really, that Jurickson Profar would be playing better defense at second base than Sardinas and Odor have given the Rangers, but who knows what his bat would've done. Rangers fans haven't forgotten about Profar, but the two other young Rangers infield prospects have helped alleviate Profar's loss.
