Golfers are having a blast this weekend and so are fans who have come to cheer on their heroes at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Among those in the crowd are two men who are heroes in their own right over at the Patriots Outpost just off the 17th fairway.
"Without our military and people defending our freedom, we certainly wouldn't be having a golf tournament," Colonial Country Club Military Committee Chairman Jimmy Thomason said.
Since 2005, Colonial Country Club has honored the military in a special way. This year Robert Gass IV and Alex Freeman became the 16th and 17th members of the Wounded Warrior program to be given homes -- mortgage free.
"They've just basically wiped all of that off the map for us," Freeman said. "(They've) made it so that we can just concentrate on life."
But that's not all these armed forces veterans received.
"It also comes with a three-year financial mentor program," Gass IV said.
A program designed to help recipients manage their money better and handle all the responsibilities that come with home ownership.

"It wasn't as simple as, "Here's a home,'" Freeman said. "They wanted to make sure that we actually could take care of the asset once we received it."
"Anything we can can do for them to make their lives more palatable is our mission and our goal," Thomason said.
And what better time than Memorial Day weekend, when those who didn't make it home are remembered.
"Their families will never have them again," Freeman said. "Even though it was a great thing that they did, they leave an emotional hole behind that the rest of us have to deal with."
