Witten Named Best Trash Talker Cowboys Have to Offer

Jason Witten was named the Cowboys' best trash talker by ESPN this week

Who is the best trash talker on the Dallas Cowboys?

The answer might surprise you. Seriously.

ESPN’s NFL Nation put together a list of the best smack talker on each team in the NFL this week, and the Cowboys’ representative is not the always-effusive Dez Bryant, as one might think, but Jason Witten—the tight end who, to hear announcers speak of him, might as well carry a lunch pail onto the field each game.

“People might think the answer is wide receiver Dez Bryant, but the correct answer is tight end Jason Witten,” ESPN Dallas’s Todd Archer writes. “In training camp, he is constantly carping on the defense after he makes a catch or if the offense dominates in a drill. Witten's trash talk isn't about him being the greatest. He can be sarcastic and sharp with his wit the way Larry Bird was on the basketball court. Neither was demonstrative with his talk, but their delivery mattered.”

Two other players with Cowboys ties made the list, in Bengals’ cornerback Pacman Jones and Bears tight end Marcellus Bennett.
