Cowboys Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten was limited in practice on Wednesday after emerging from last Sunday’s 20-10 victory over the Eagles with two sprained ankles and a sprained knee, but he feels good about his chances of playing against the Falcons at AT&T Stadium on Sunday.
“I'm confident,” Witten told David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “I felt good out there.”
Head coach Jason Garrett has plans in place if Witten can’t go, but the veteran has a pretty impressive track record with this sort of thing, having played in 189 consecutive games dating back to his rookie season, when he missed a game with a broken jaw.
Garrett admitted that track record could come into play in Witten’s case.
“Well, his history matters,” Garrett said. “You're certainly more trusting of a guy like that because he's shown you many times in the past that he's going to be there. He has a great credibility with us. Track record matters. He's demonstrated a lot through his career that he can get himself ready to play when things don't always look so good for him early on in the week. But we have to be ready with a lot of different alternatives.”
