With Hamilton Arriving, Rangers Playing Best Baseball of the Season

The Yankees’ glory days are long gone. So too might be these Rangers’ dark days.

With Josh Hamilton slated to start this afternoon in Cleveland, the Rangers that were almost dead and buried at the end of April are suddenly playing their best baseball of the season.

After sweeping the Yankees on Bernie Williams’ night, Texas has won five in-a-row and heads to Cleveland at 21-23, their closest flirtation with .500 since they were 6-8 back on April 21.

The Rangers were 7-15 on May 1.

After all the pomp and circumstance of a night in which Williams was celebrated, the Yankees and Rangers played like teams headed in different directions.

In front of former greats like Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Paul O’Neill and Tino Martinez, the Rangers jumped on New York starter Chris Capuano with a Prince Fielder RBI single in the 1st and then took the lead for good on Adam Rosales’ two-run homer in the 2nd.

While the Yankees have lost six straight, and 10 of 11, the Rangers earned their first sweep in New York since 2003.
