Wisconsin’s Gordon: Cowboys Should Keep Murray

Diane and Amber Broucek

Former Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon, who's one of the two running backs projected as a first-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft, is in town to receive his Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back.

So of course, Gordon was asked about the possibility of being drafted by the Cowboys, which were one of the teams who was very interested in him at last week's NFL combine in Indianapolis. The Cowboys have been tabbed as a potential suitor for Gordon in several mock drafts with their No. 27 pick, with the stipulation, of course, that they'd let DeMarco Murray walk in free agency.

But Gordon is saying he doesn't really think he'll be in Dallas long-term because if he were Jerry Jones, he'd hold on to Murray.

“They’re still trying to figure out what they’re going to do,” Gordon told The Dallas Morning News by phone Thursday. “If I were them, I would try to keep DeMarco Murray. He’s a phenomenal player.

“But that’s a tough decision because Dez (Bryant) is great, too. If they could find a way to keep both of them, that would be great.”
