Williams Steps Up in Huge Way

While the NFL's leader in touchdown receptions was having a relatively quiet day minus one big catch, his teammate on the opposite side of the Dallas Cowboys' offense was emerging from a deep slumber, and it couldn't have happened in a bigger moment.

After the Lions took a quick 14-0 first-quarter lead in Sunday's Wild Card playoff game in Arlington, and the Cowboys' defense had been physically whupped by a stout Lions defense, Terrance Williams made a big play — his first in a good while.

Williams had two touchdowns in the Cowboys' Week 16 win over the Colts, but other than that, he hadn't really done anything since a Week 5 win over the Texans. On Sunday, he was quarterback Tony Romo's go-to guy.

Granted, he only had three catches in the 24-20 comeback win — the Cowboys' first playoff win in the Jason Garrett era — but two went for scores, and his first went for a 76-yarder in the final minutes of the first half to break an offensive drought and get the Cowboys on the board. Their last score of the game also was by Williams, who worked his way open in the middle of the end zone for Romo, who was hit as he threw a strike to the second-year wideout.

While Dez Bryant was held to three catches for 48 yards, including one big 43-yarder to get the Cowboys inside the Lions' 10 to set up a DeMarco Murray touchdown, Williams was having a huge day. For the Cowboys to continue this run, that will have to continue as teams will continue to focus coverage on Bryant and make Williams beat them. We'll see if he can do it again in Green Bay on Sunday.
