Will Gallo Get the Call Next Week?

Joey Gallo had one of the most awesome big-league debuts in Texas in recent memory, possibly the greatest of all time.

The prodigious slugger homered, drove in five runs and hit a double that was mere inches from being another home run. His first few games were quite the spectacle, and he ended up hitting five home runs in his brief stint with the Rangers.

But, as great as his homers were, he struck out 43 times in 98 at-bats and continued the trend when he was sent down to Triple-A Round Rock — still a promotion in a sense after he was called up to Arlington straight from Frisco.

Dallas Stars Fire Head Coach Jim Montgomery for ‘Unprofessional Conduct’

In Round Rock, he's hit just .188 with a .291 on-base percentage to go with his 13 homers. He's struck out 84 times in 213 plate appearances.

So, what do the Rangers do with Gallo on Sept. 1 when rosters expand?

If the Rangers weren't so heavily tilted left-handed already, you'd think Gallo would be a lock to come up to provide a power bat off the bench, but especially if Josh Hamilton makes it back healthy, the team will have no need for another left-handed bat when they already traded for Will Venable.
