Wichita Police Release 911 Calls Related to Joseph Randle-Related Incident

Scared 911 caller warns of drugs, gun, violence

Wichita police Monday released a series of 911 calls related to an incident on Feb. 4 involving Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle.

The unnamed caller, who identified herself as the mother of Randle's child, made several accusations in the first call that the Dallas Cowboys running back threatened she and another woman with a gun and was in possession of a large amount of marijuana.

"He pointed the gun in front of the mother of his child and he pointed it in front of this other female ... we have our child here and he has a lot of weed," the woman said, speaking about herself and a friend. "Joseph Randle just broke a window, he pointed a gun in front of somebody's car and then he busted her window open ... he plays for the Cowboys."

The caller then quickly ended the call when she said Randle was approaching.

"I really can't talk right now because he's coming. I just don't feel comfortable. He's coming, I have to go. He's coming, I'm scared. Bye, bye," the woman said.

She called back a few minutes later and said the police were not needed and that nothing was wrong.

"I was just talking to someone. I'm the woman that called about Joseph Randle. Um, you guys don't have to worry about it. We talked it out. We just talked it out, it's fine. Everything's fine. We just talked to him and everything's fine now," the woman said. "Everything's fine now, you don't have to worry about it though. Just, please don't come."

After the 911 operator said he couldn't cancel the call, the woman reiterated everything was fine and that it was just a misunderstanding.

At one point in the third call, she softly told the operator, "the car that was here, with the weed, already left."

Several times during the call the woman said she felt threatened and didn't want to be identified and eventually hung up the phone. When 911 operators tried to call back, they got the woman's voicemail.

After police arrived Randle was cited for suspicion of marijuana possession and, according to his agent, he then went to sleep in his hotel room.

Police spokesman Lt. James Espinoza said Feb. 6 the marijuana charge was dropped because there were some inconsistencies. Espinoza said dropping the charge allows them to present any charges that result from the ongoing investigation to prosecutors at one time and that they may be refiled.

Last week, the NFL said they were also looking into the incident. The Dallas Cowboys have not issued an official statement on the matter.

This is Randle's second run-in with law enforcement since joining America's Team. On Oct. 13, 2014, he was arrested in Frisco after being caught on camera shoplifting $123 in Polo underwear and Gucci Guilty Black cologne from a Dillard's store at Stonebriar Centre Mall.

The Cowboys fined Randle "significantly" for the Class B misdemeanor last fall, but didn't suspend him. Randle has two years remaining on his four-year, $2.3 million rookie contract.
