Who's On, Who's Not?: Aug. 6

In a weekly staple, we'll discuss who's in a groove and who's in a rut for the Texas Rangers.

Who's On?

Robinson Chirinos — In his last four games, Chirinos is batting .429 and had two home runs in Tuesday night's offensive outburst. He's likely to see his time cut a little with Geovany Soto's pending return (again) on Friday.

Adrian Beltre — He's starting to heat up again, and over the past six games he's hitting .333 and got the party started on Tuesday with an early three-run homer in the first inning.

Colby Lewis — Check these numbers for a week: 2-0, 1.13 ERA, 11 strikeouts, three walks in 16 innings of work, including Tuesday night's complete-game shutout. It's too early to say for sure, but it seems the quality MLB starter version of Lewis might be back.

Who's Off?

Nick Martinez — He's still wildly inconsistent and can't seem to get through an order a third time, but the Rangers are still investing in Martinez with the hope he can become a rotation piece for the long term. In his last outing, however, he gave up five runs in five innings.

Alex Rios — The veteran right fielder, who was placed on waivers on Tuesday, is batting just .130 over the past six games with just a homer and four RBIs.

Leonys Martin — He's benched for Wednesday's series finale, and he's batting just .167 in his last five games, but he struggles horribly against lefties and the Rangers face one of the best in the game on Wednesday.
