Waxahachie Set to Hire Jon Kitna?!?

Hold on to your horses, Texas High School Football fans.

One of several rather significant job openings on the Metroplex landscape is about to be filled, as numerous reports are suggesting Waxahachie has hired former Cowboys backup quarterback Jon Kitna as its next head coach.

The move was first reported by the Tacoma (Washington) News Tribune, where Kitna had headed up his alma mater Tacoma Lincoln, following his playing career. If you remember, Kitna was signed for that ill-fated regular-season finale in 2013 to back up Kyle Orton after Tony Romo had been ruled out, but before that he had a decent run as Romo's backup, and before that was a pretty good starter for the Detroit Lions.

Kitna's son, Jordan, who will be a senior this upcoming season, was the Lincoln quarterback, and would certainly be a frontrunner to hold the same position for the Indians.

Interestingly enough, not all states require coaches to have teaching certification, which is why you see many former NFL players as head coaches in other states, but rarely in Texas and especially not in the public school realm.
