After there were winds swirling around the NFL that the Minnesota Vikings weren't interested in bringing back All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson in 2015 following a season that saw him play the opener and then get suspended for the rest of the season, it now seems the Vikings want Peterson back.
Peterson isn't even eligible for reinstatement until mid-April after he was suspended following charges of injuring his son while disciplining him with a wooden switch. In November, he pleaded no contest to reckless injury, a misdemeanor.
But now, it appears, when he does get reinstated the Vikings would open up the door to welcome him back with one year remaining on his contract. There was talk that the Vikings would either cut Peterson, or possibly even trade him to a team such as the Dallas Cowboys after an infamous phone conversation between Peterson and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones last summer expressed mutual interest in bringing Peterson back to his home state to finish his career.
"He's been good in the locker room. He's done everything we've asked him to do," Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer told ESPN Thursday. "I think from the top of the organization [on] down, we all want Adrian back. We know what he brings to our offense and to our football team and really to Minneapolis and the Twin cities."
Perhaps Peterson to Dallas was a pipe dream all along, but now it's appearing more and more likely that's all it ever was as he's under contract for the 2015 season with the Vikings.
