Upsets Were Theme of Week 13

A couple of teams will try to repeat that trend this weekend

Three of the state's top teams went down last week in the third round of the playoffs.

Abilene's win over Cedar Hill wasn't as much of an upset (top-10 team over No. 1 team) as it was shocking (41-17 win).

Arlington Bowie's non-flashy team went up against perhaps the flashiest, most recognizable program of the decade and help the Southlake Carroll Dragons to 21 points en route to a victory.

And finally, the state's No. 2 team, Dallas Skyline, was beaten by Cypress Woods and saw its season come to a premature end despite being absolutely loaded with talent. The loss continued a trend of DISD teams being super-athletic but having disappointing showings in the postseason.

So what upsets are there to look out for this coming weekend in Week 14? Even though there really are no upsets at this point because every team is good, here are some on the radar:

Euless Trinity is a 1-point favorite over Arlington and has one more loss than the Colts on the season. The Trojans are playing at home in Pennington FIeld but look out for Arlington and Matt Joeckel.

Everman is a touchdown dog against Aledo but matches up well with the Bearcats on both sides of the ball with its physical, run-oriented style of play. Expect nothing but a slugfest.
