Two Years Later, Josh Brent Returns to Action

Before Thursday, Brent last played in an NFL game in December of 2012

On Thursday night, a little over two years to the day that he last played in an NFL game, Josh Brent returned to action.

Brent played 22 snaps in the 21-28 win over the Bears and finished with a pair of tackles.

It felt good,” Brent said, per David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “It felt normal. It felt like where I belong.”

In the two years between his last game and Thursday night, Brent spent time in jail on intoxication manslaughter charges, stemming from the December 2012 single-car accident that claimed the life of Brent’s close friend and Cowboys teammate, Jerry Brown, Jr.

Brent said he reflected on his journey back to the NFL prior to kickoff.

“I definitely did that before the game, realizing everything I’ve gone through the past two years to get back to this point and just kind of take it in and smile,” Brent said. “I know Jerry (Jones) is my gridiron angel. I’m a very blessed man, and I don’t take that for granted.”
