After losing 23-14 on Saturday in a rain-soaked game to the top team in Class 5A, the Euless Trinity Trojans dropped from No. 2 in the state all the way to No. 9 -- a hard fall for a second-ranked team losing to a top-ranked team, especially by such a small margin.
It was the main shake-up in the new Associated Press state high school football polls that were released on Monday.
I suppose Trinity's knock was that the Trojans have played just two games -- a dominant victory over a Utah team unknown by the voters, and then the nine-point loss to Cedar Hill, but seven spots seemed kind of harsh to me.

Southlake Carroll appears to be back as a state powerhouse and checks in at No. 3, moving up a spot from last week and Dallas Skyline is right behind the Dragons at No. 4, also moving up a spot. Allen is in a tie for seventh, just ahead of Trinity. Those two teams will square off this weekend in another titanic clash.
In Class 4A, Longview remains No. 1, but still mysteriously isn't getting every single first-place vote after they beat then-No. 2 in Class 5A, Allen in the season opener. Lake Travis still has three first-place votes and sits in second place ahead of Denton Guyer. Ennis checks in at No. 5, moving up three spots, but has a big game this weekend against 5A upstart Mesquite Horn. Ennis' top rival, Waxahachie, checks in at No. 7 -- the Indians' first appearance in the poll this year, and Highland Park is No. 9 after losing to Coppell on Friday night. Denton Ryan is the top "others receiving votes" school after QB Scotty Young tied the state record with eight TD passes in Friday night's 70-63 win over McKinney.
In Class 3A, there's a giant that's now gone after Celina lost to 2A No. 1 Daingerfield for the Bobcats' second straight loss, dropping them into the "others receiving votes" category. Prosper is sitting pretty at No. 7, moving up a spot from last week.
What do you think? Were the voters too harsh on Trinity? What do you think about Celina's rare departure from the top 10?
