Trio of Off-Days Benefits Desmond

Ian Desmond isn't getting off to the start he'd hoped he would with the Texas Rangers. No one can argue that. Even though he's a notoriously slow starter, Desmond had to have been hoping for better than this โ€” .140 batting average with 16 strikeouts in his first 13 games and one extra-base hit (a double).

To give you an idea of how bad it's been, Desmond's two hits on Tuesday night in the Rangers' 7-5 win over Houston are counted in those numbers as he seemed to benefit from a few days off.

Desmond was given a day on Saturday as he was mired in an awful slump. On Sunday, the Rangers were rained out, and then came Monday's scheduled off-day for the club. So you can bet he was itching to get back to action on Tuesday, and he did just that.

Desmond went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI on Tuesday, and one of his outs was about as loud an out as you can have โ€” a shot to dead center that backed the Astros' center fielder all the way up to the wall to make the catch.

Whatever he did in those three days off seemed to give Desmond a bit of rejuvenation. Now, he just has to carry over the positives from Tuesday.
