India walls off Aussies

MATCH STATS

India's Gurjit Kaur scored on a penalty shot from the corner midway through the second quarter Monday at Oi Hockey Stadium, and that was all the Indian defense needed to dispatch Australia, 1-0, and move on to the semifinals at the Tokyo Olympics.

Goalie Sativa Punia wasn't tested often, but aided by the brilliance of her teammates up front, she was nails when she needed to be and helped her country move on to the penultimate stage of the competition for the first time in the program's history.

Argentina's D eliminates Germany

MATCH RESULTS

With a suffocating defensive effort in the early quarterfinals match, Argentina's women moved on to the semis with a 3-0 humbling of Germany, which saw its hopes of topping the silver medal it won at Rio 2016 dashed in defeat.

The first quarter ended in a scoreless tie, but Argentina took what proved to be a commanding lead before icing the Germans with an insurance goal in the fourth.

Netherlands continues tournament dominance

MATCH STATS

Three different Netherlands players found the score sheet in a straight-forward 3-0 defeat of New Zealand that saw the Dutch with near-70 percent possession and a masterful 28-3 advantage in circle penetrations.

Frederique Matla, of course, was one of the scorers as she collected her eighth goal of these Olympics. Netherlands is now 6-0 in the tournament and one win from the gold medal match.

Britain tops Spain; Dutch next

MATCH STATS

Great Britain beat Spain in a penalty shootout to secure the last semifinal spot in the women's Olympic hockey tournament on Monday. They will next face the Netherlands

After a tense 2-2 draw in regular time, Britain won the game by scoring two shootout goals, while Spain missed four times thanks to a superb performance by Britain's veteran goalie Madeleine Hinch.
