Terrance Williams Says Romo Pick Was His Fault

Tony Romo threw what could've been a game-ending interception late in the fourth quarter on Sunday

For the second time this season, rookie receiver Terrance Williams has come forward to take the blame for a Tony Romo interception.

Romo was picked off by Vikings cornerback A.J. Jefferson with a little over four minutes left in the fourth quarter. All is more easily forgiven and forgotten since the Cowboys defense kept Minnesota from extending their lead and gave the ball back to Romo and co. for the game-winning drive, but Williams said after that he should have done a better job of making sure Jefferson didn’t bring the ball in.

“I ran past him to try to see if he would turn and move his hips, but he didn’t. He just stayed there,” Williams said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I tried to cut him off, but I’ve just got to do a better job of being more physical, or just at least trying to deflect the ball so a pick like that wouldn’t happen.”

Head coach Jason Garrett didn’t blame the rookie outright, but given the coverage the Vikings were in, he certainly doesn’t blame Romo for making the pass, either.

“Certainly, the coverage was tight, and the guy made a good play, good break on the football,” Garrett said. “When it is one-on-one, you have to cut the ball loose. You have to count on the receiver winning and the receiver making the play for you, and certainly, not a lot of bad things happening.”
