Terrance Williams on Pick-Six: “It Was a Good Play by Him”

Matt Cassel threw three interceptions in his Dallas Cowboys debut on Sunday, but absorbed the full brunt of blame for only two of those.

The first one happened on an out pattern on which third-year receiver Terrance Williams didn’t explode, at all, coming out of his break. Jets cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie did explode, beat Williams to the ball easily and immediately raised his arm because he had an easy path to the end zone--which he followed to give the Giants a 17-13 lead.

Almost immediately on the telecast, it was being pointed out that the pick might have been more on Williams’ route than Cassel’s throw.

“He was playing outside leverage and being the veteran that he is, he was reading the quarterback--not me--the whole way,” Williams said, per ESPN Dallas. “He broke on the ball and made a play. It was a good play by him.”

This play aside, we’d guess Williams still likes having Cassel under center as opposed to Brandon Weeden. In the three games Weeden started, Williams caught five passes for 79 yards. On Sunday alone, with Cassel getting him the ball, he went for 70 yards on four catches.
