Stephen Jones: “We've Just Got to Learn From” Brawl with Rams

The Cowboys and Rams cut their joint workout on Tuesday short after a brawl broke out

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president and C.O.O. Stephen Jones wants you to know he and the rest of the team’s leadership are committed to ending the sort of training camp brawl we saw on Tuesday, when--surprisingly, considering both teams specifically told their players not to fight--the Cowboys and the Rams had a bit of a melee, cutting the joint practice short.

Problem is, there’s not really a clear-cut solution. Coaches and teams believe these joint practices are beneficial enough that no one wants to discuss scrapping them altogether, but there’s no arguing that they pretty consistently lead to fights--for obvious reasons.

“I can't imagine that we can't continue to have joint practices and get this right just like we do a lot of things,” Jones said, per ESPN Dallas. “But we're going to have to continue to emphasize that stuff is not what we want. It should not be a part of our game. It's not good for either team. Obviously, there are huge injury risks. We've just got to learn from it. I'd hate to think two teams can't get together.

“When you see the energy level out here with the fans, they enjoy it, watching the teams play. I do think we can continue to do this. I just think we have to emphasize we don't want this in our game.”
