Born and raised a Cowboys fan in DFW, I’ve learned, loved and lived Rule No. 1: Roger Staubach is never wrong.
But in regard to this week’s stumping for Troy Aikman to be the Cowboys’ next general manager, can we at least admit that Captain America is misguided?
Do the Cowboys need a GM? Absolutely. Would Aikman be a good one? Probably. Is there even a one percent chance of it happening? Nope.
Couple flaws in Staubach’s suggestion:
1. Aikman has the cushiest job in the world as lead NFL analyst for Fox, where he makes a million bucks and only works weekends.
2. People may forget, but Aikman was never very good at talent evaluation. It was Aikman, remember, who lobbied for the Cowboys to draft a certain tight end in the first round in '97. Anyone remember David LaFleur? And it was Aikman who took a pay cut in ‘00 so the Cowboys could trade for a certain receiver. Anyone remember Joey Galloway?
3. And most importantly, Jerry Jones is the GM. He will always be the GM, until the day son Stephen takes over as the GM.

Roger’s completed Hail Mary’s in his day. But this move may be out of even his reach.
