Staubach Likes Cowboys' Chances with Romo Back at the Helm

Tony Romo returned to action Sunday after missing seven games with a broken collarbone

Ever the Tony Romo fan, Roger Staubach likes the Dallas Cowboys’ chances now that their franchise quarterback is back, even if they’re sitting at 3-7 and in last place in the NFC East, with almost no room for error down the stretch.

"I'm excited about the game on Thursday,” Staubach told 103.3-FM ESPN Radio’s Cowlishaw and Mosley Show, via the Dallas Morning News. “They're 3-7 and I don't think if someone told me that I'd be really excited about the Cowboys playing Carolina. But they're still in it and at 3-7 their division is helping them stay in it. They're a better team now (with) the health of Dez (Bryant) and Tony. So I think we can beat anybody that we play, it's just can we win six more games in a row?"

Staubach has been a Romo supporter for as far back as we can remember, but we would not surprised if the Hall of Famer’s fandom is at an all-time high--after watching the Cowboys flail around in seven consecutive losses in the absence of Romo, we’d imagine that’s the case for a lot of folks in North Texas.

"I haven't just jumped on the Tony Romo bandwagon,” Staubach said. “I remember the Thanksgiving day game, I think it was against the Packers, when he first got his chance. You could just see he had these abilities to make plays and he had a good arm, he could move. He had that 13-3 season, too. I've been a Tony fan for a long time. I think he's just a fantastic football player and he's proven also that it's not your physical part on the field, it's the mental part of getting your teammates confident. Just him playing last week, I think the offensive team played better and the defensive team played better. I've always liked Tony as a football player so I'm not surprised at all the great things he's doing last year and this year."
