Stanford WR Ty Montgomery Back Home for Dallas Day

Montgomery is currently projected as a mid- to late-round pick

Like a lot of the local prospects at Valley Ranch on Friday for Dallas Day, we’d imagine, Stanford receiver Ty Montgomery grew up in Dallas as a fan of the Cowboys. But the St. Mark’s product is not about to let fond childhood memories--of rooting for the team on TV and at old Texas Stadium--distract him from the task at hand.

“Growing up a Cowboys fan, it’ll be cool, but once the workout starts, it’ll just be another day at the office,” Montgomery said Thursday, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. “Just have to work.”

Currently projected as a fifth round pick, Montgomery had 2,208 all-purpose yards in 2013, and earned consensus All-American honors as a kick returner. He took a step back last year as he dealt with a shoulder injury, and that has hurt his stock somewhat. Now, he could very well turn out to be a mid- to late-round steal for the Cowboys--who, it should be noted, are looking for a receiver who can return kicks to replace Dwayne Harris.

But whoever he ends up with, Montgomery will be happy.

“I think it would be unbelievable. It would be awesome to wear the star,” Montgomery said. “It’s something I grew up watching and hoping I could. But wherever I’ll end up I’ll be happy and blessed to have the opportunity to play.”
