Stanback Heads To New England

The Isaiah Stanback experiment came to an end on Saturday night, not with a bang but a whimper.

After two injury-plagued seasons with the team, the receiver turned quarterback was cut on Saturday. He was thought to be a viable option both as a wildcat quarterback and for the fifth receiver spot, this offseason; he was beaten out for the latter by undrafted Virginia product Kevin Ogletree, however, who was probably the breakout star of camp.

Now, it appears that the former 4th rounder out of Washington will return to quarterback as a member of the New England Patriots practice squad, the position at which, he says, he is more comfortable. Tim MacMahon reported yesterday that Stanback interviewed with New England strictly as a quarterback prior to the 2007 draft, and didn't know he would be moved to receiver until after Dallas selected him in the fourth round.

"I tried very hard at receiver," said Stanback, in the DMN post. "I busted my butt at receiver and did whatever was asked of me. I think I could do it, but I was never comfortable with it.

"Quarterback is what I've done my whole life. It's what I'm comfortable with."
