Soria Bounces Back After Rough Night

Joakim Soria was back at it again on Wednesday night after he basically single-handily blew a game on Tuesday night — the Twins' only win over the Rangers so far this four-game series.

Soria made his third appearance in four days on Wednesday night to close out a 1-0 Rangers win, and he did so dominantly — no base-runners and two strikeouts — in a nice, crisp 10-pitch save.

That came a day after Soria had entered the game with a 3-2 Rangers lead and quickly pitched the Rangers to a 4-3 loss after he loaded the bases, with the help of a defensive brain fart by Adrian Beltre and an awful call from the umpiring crew, and then had an inexplicable error that turned an extra-inning game into his first blown save of the season.

Soria has been very good this year, and his presence has been a god-send considering Neftali Feliz's eternal struggles and the fact the Rangers let Joe Nathan walk away. Nathan, of course, is struggling with the Tigers this year and blew his third save of the season on Wednesday night, while Soria has been fantastic after entering spring training as the team's seventh-inning guy or possibly as the setup man.

The Rangers have a luxury in Soria, a proven, former all-star closer who's making $5.5 million this year and has a club option for $7 million in 2015 when he'll be 31 years old. Not only does that option seem like it should be a lock now, but he might be earning himself an extension in lieu of the option.

There's nothing like having stability in the ninth inning, and Soria has provided that in spades this year.
