SMU Mustangs Battle 11th Ranked Houston Cougars Saturday

The SMU Mustangs will take on the Houston Cougars this weekend.

Kickoff for the 32nd game between the teams is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

SMU will host a ranked Cougars team for the first time since 1990. The Mustangs, 0-2 in the American Athletic Conference, are looking to stop a three-game losing streak. The Ponies will have a tough time slowing down one of the top offenses in the country, as the No. 11 Cougars are averaging more than 500 yards a game and scoring 42 points a contest.

Good news about that Chad Morris defense: they are the only team in the FBS with three players with three or more interceptions. The SMU defense has 13 interceptions total, second among FBS schools, and the defense is tied for fourth in the country in total takeaways.

As for the Mustangs offense, keep an eye on receiver Courtland Sutton, who has 30 receptions for 590 yards, good for 26th in the nation. Sutton's four touchdowns in the first six games ranks fifth in the country.

Houston has won the last three meetings with SMU, including last season's contest which Houston won 49-28.
