Another day. Another load of fuel for the enemy.
In a frenzied offseason in which the Cowboys have already lost DeMarco Murray and Dwayne Harris to NFC East rivals, this morning comes news that defensive lineman George Selvie has signed with the New York Giants.
In recent years the Cowboys also lost defensive linemen Chris Canty to the Giants and Jason Hatcher to the Redskins.
Now, with the way teams are plucking players from the defense, you’d think the 2014 Cowboys’ unit was the ’85 Bears. Gone are Sterling Moore (Buccaneers), Bruce Carter (Buccaneers), Justin Durant (Falcons) and now Selvie, who is signing a one-year deal worth $1.4 million to help the Giants’ 30th-ranked run defense. It also appears unlikely that Rolando McClain will be back in Dallas next season.

Selvie proved a valuable find in 2013, when he was seemingly an emergency afterthought to replace injured Anthony Spencer at defensive end but wound up with seven sacks and a forced fumble. In 13 starts last season he produced three sacks.
He became expendable with the expected growth of DeMarcus Lawrence and the arrival of Greg Hardy.
