Ryan Williams Thinks of Himself as a Starter

Williams was signed quietly by the Cowboys back in May

Coming to the Dallas Cowboys in May after impressing coaches in a workout at Valley Ranch, Ryan Williams has started a grand total of three games in the NFL. But he still thinks of himself as a starting running back, and one that can make an impact as part of the team’s stable of running backs.

“I’m never trying to fit in anywhere, and that’s no disrespect to anyone on this team,” Williams told the team’s official website. “But me being who I am and loving doing what I do, I’m not just trying to be a running back on this team. I’m trying to have a legacy when I leave, and however I’m going to get it I’m going to get it.

“I’m not trying to step on any toes, but I do know what situation I brought myself into coming in, but every time you see 34 on that field, everybody’s going to know it’s not a step down from any other running back that was in there before me, whether DeMarco came out to get a breather and 34 is in there, or Lance (Dunbar) or Joe (Randle). I’d just like to say that you’ve got another starting running back on this team with the other running backs you’ve got.”

In two seasons with the Cardinals, Williams had just 164 yards. He suffered a ruptured patella tendon in his rookie season with the team and never saw a snap in 2013, even though he says he was healthy and never missed a practice.
