Rumor Mill: Rangers Possibly Still on Gray?

What if I told you the Rangers were going to trade Joey Gallo, Jurickson Profar and a recent No. 1 pick in starting pitcher prospect Luis Ortiz?

It's OK. Breathe.

Now, what if I told you the Rangers would get back an ace controlled for four seasons, and get him from a division rival?

Tell you what, I'd think long and hard about it.

It wouldn't be easy to part with those guys, especially Gallo. Profar hasn't played in two years and has no fit currently on the Rangers' big-league roster. He has shown he's healthy and had a nice spring, but that's spring. Heck, even with Gallo, the Rangers are talking of possibly extending Adrian Beltre and he wants three years, so where does Gallo fit in that scenario?

Now, where does Sonny Gray fit on the Rangers? Well, right at the top of the team's rotation, which with Yu Darvish and Cole Hamels would be one of, if not the, best in baseball.

Gray is 26, he's not a free agent until 2020 and he's a virtual lock for 200 innings. His career-high ERA is a 3.08 and he put up a pristine 2.73 ERA in 31 starts a year ago.

It's a tough call — really tough.

I'd lean toward pulling the trigger on that deal. What about you?
