The Texas Rangers are still looking for someone to step into a starting left field role that will likely be vacated when Shin-Soo Choo is expected to be moved to right field, which is more of his natural position.
One of the main candidates to fill that role is rookie Ryan Rua, who got a cup of coffee in September and fared really well for himself along the way, hitting .295 with two homers and driving in 14 runs on the year.
In 129 minor-league games split between Frisco and Round Rock, Rua hit .306 with 18 homers and 74 RBIs while seeing time at first base, second base, third base and left field. The 24-year-old played first, third and left field for the Rangers in September, with 17 of his 27 starts coming in left field.
The left-field picture is still plenty cloudy, but Rua, who was drafted as a shortstop, could factor in elsewhere in the infield, as well.
“A little bit depends on what we do the rest of the way,’’ Rangers GM Jon Daniels told The Dallas Morning News of Rua's plan for 2015.
