Ross Looks Better in Second Winter Outing

Usually the winter leagues in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, etc. are reserved for mid-level prospects and recent draft picks.

But every now and then you'll see established big-leaguers taking part, and in a bit of an odd move the Texas Rangers sent Robbie Ross to the Dominican winter league this offseason to try to rediscover what made him such an effective reliever in 2012 and the first half of 2013.

Ross struggled horribly over the second half of the 2013 season before briefly putting together a good stretch at the end of the year. His first start for Toros del Este, according to The Dallas Morning News' Gerry Fraley, went pretty terribly. Ross allowed all six batters he faced in that game to reach base.

On Sunday night, he got another opportunity and looked better, albeit facing winter league hitters and not big-league bats.

Ross allowed two baserunners and one run in three innings, which should give him some confidence moving forward after such a disastrous debut outing.
