Romo Looking For Young WR To “Grab” No. 3 Spot

The Cowboys' lost their 2011 no. 3, Laurent Robinson, to the Jaguars in free agency earlier in the year

Had Laurent Robinson been a little less impressive in 2011, he might still be with the Cowboys and the Cowboys’ might be moving into the 2012 season with a promising no. 3 receiver in place. As it happened though, Robinson emerged to lead the team in receiving touchdowns with 11, while compiling 858 yards on 54 catches.

The performance got the attention of (among others) the Jacksonville Jaguars, who gave Robinson a five-year, $32.5 million deal this offseason--a pair of numbers the Cowboys weren’t prepared to match--leaving the no. 3 spot on the receiving corps. open.

Of the candidates for the role--Kevin Ogletree, Andre Holmes, Dwayne Harris, Raymond Radway and fifth-round pick Danny Coale--quarterback Tony Romo won’t venture a guess as to who will win out. But he does believe that at the end of the offseason, someone will have stepped up to take the job.

We want somebody to come in and grab that spot,” Romo said last week, per ESPN Dallas. “Guys have got to work their butt off. They’ve got to develop a rapport with me and they’ve got to know the offense. When they do that, they’ll have a great chance, because we’ve got some guys who have some ability in this room.”
