Romo Agrees with Jerry Jones' Assessment of His Future

Jerry Jones has predicted that Tony Romo has 4-5 good years left

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has four years left on his contract, and owner Jerry Jones believes he will not only play that deal out, but perhaps go beyond it, having said somewhat famously that he believes Romo has four or five good years left.

Romo agreed with his boss’s assessment recently, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas.

“I’m not in my mid-20s anymore, but I do think based on what my situation has been like the last three or four years, I do think this [offseason] is drastically different,” Romo said Wednesday. “It takes me back five years ago when I was able to do things the way [I had]. I'm not there yet. I still got these months to just get after it, but it's exciting to actually be able to get after it a little bit. But if everything keeps going the way it's going, I think it's going to be exciting going into camp.”

While Romo is coming off surgery to stabilize his collarbone, which was fractured twice during the 2015 season, head coach Jason Garrett is encouraged by his quarterback’s health. Specifically, he believes Romo’s back—which was his big trouble area before the collarbone—is healthier than it’s been maybe ever, the result of the stabilizing core work that’s become such a big part of Romo’s work.

“He's healthier than he's been,” Garrett said. “He's been able to go through more of the offseason program, lay the foundation for himself with [strength coach Mike Woicik] and his staff back there. I think his back feels better. I think he's come back from the surgery on his collarbone seemingly without any problems. He's been able to function leading up to the OTAs, and I think he's been good the first couple of days.”
