Report: Grossman To Start Over McNabb Sunday

“According to two people close to the situation,” a report in the Washington Post said today, the Washington Redskins will start Rex Grossman over Donovan McNabb against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The news was initially reported by Kelli Johnson of Comcast Sportsnet Washington, who added, in her Twitter post, that the team was “divided and extremely upset.

The report was later confirmed by the Post.

This report ends a long week of speculation over McNabb’s status with the team, and head coach Mike Shanahan. McNabb and Grossman have been splitting reps with the first team offense since last week, leading many writers to believe that a change was imminent.

Shanahan bristled when the question of who would start Sunday was asked by reporters on Wednesday.

“You want to go through our whole lineup or do you want me to go through each position or do you just want to start with the quarterback?" Shanahan said, adding a few moments later, "I don't tell anybody who's starting.”

If Grossman starts on Sunday, it will be the veteran’s first action since the team’s Halloween day loss to the Detroit Lions, a game in which he was installed to run the two minute drill over McNabb.
