Report: Dallas An Unlikely Destination For Asomugha

Sports Illustrated’s Peter King recently listed the Dallas Cowboys as the second-most likely destination for free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. However, a subsequent report has thrown doubt on the idea of a relationship between Dallas and the former Raider.

Fox Sports Southwest’s Matt Mosley recently Tweeted that the Cowboys are a “long shot” in the Asomugha sweepstakes, citing a team insider familiar with the situation.

Obviously, the team could use some help at corner, and, also obviously, Asomugha would provide a significant upgrade. But once a collective bargaining agreement is done, it’s likely that Dallas will be up against the salary cap--meaning that they would have to outbid each of Asomugha’s numerous suitors as well as make room under the cap for him.

This would almost certainly require cutting a number of veterans, and it’s unlikely that Dallas would make such a drastic move for one piece at this point, regardless of how impressive that piece may be.
