Report: Cowboys Not Planning to Pick Up Claiborne's Option

As the Dallas Cowboys make their final preparations for the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, we learn that their first round pick in 2012, Morris Claiborne, might not be around beyond next season.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys have no intention of picking up the fifth-year option on Claiborne’s rookie contract. This isn’t much of a surprise. Claiborne has struggled with injuries since being taken sixth overall out of LSU, and even when he has been on the field, he hasn’t inspired a lot of faith on the part of the staff.

His frustration came to a head last September, when he was informed that Orlando Scandrick would replace him in the starting lineup, and promptly stormed out of Valley Ranch.

“[Claiborne] is working hard coming back from his injuries,” Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said, per the Dallas Morning News. “He has been dealing with injuries throughout his career. We certainly haven’t seen the best of Mo Claiborne yet.

“I know he has been working hard this offseason. He is someone we have a lot of confidence in, a lot of belief in. He is a little under the radar right now. We are certainly hopeful. He continues to work hard and get better physically to come back and put his best foot forward.”
